While browsing through the new SELF magazine yesterday, I came across this article called DETOX YOUR DIET. It's a bunch of recipes and a workout plan (created by Jillian Michaels). While I'm obviously not trying to lose weight I did want to check out the recipes! YUM!
Before the recipes there's a section talking about 5 FOOD ADDITIVES that can contribute to weight gain and extra fat sticking to your hips. I was curious because I thought hmmm if these additives aid in fat storage and weight gain, surely they aren't good for an average person!
Our family is going to work on avoiding these foods for the sake of ourselves and our baby on the way!
THE FATTY 5:
*Aspartame, Saccharin, Sucralose--all artificial sweeteners, and aspartame and saccharin may also lead to cancer, ICK!
We are going to instead replace these with honey or maple syrup, but we're really not too big on extra sweeteners anyways. I used to get bad stomachaches when I ingested this stuff (before pregnancy). Fructose is also pretty bad too (when it's not in the natural form of fruit). So that means Agave syrup is also out. Whenever we get a craving for something sweet we're gonna try to stick to fruit, it's natural after all!
*Iron--overdoing it is the big concern. Really only need 18 milligrams per day. Since we don't eat red meat that often and I feel that my prenatal vitamins give me a good amount I think this isn't a big issue for us.
*Monoacylglycerol--yep say that 5 times fast! This stuff binds oil and water in things like baked goods and ice cream. Again, how good is ice cream really for you?
We're going to focus on less processed and more fresh!
The full article is in the JANUARY 2012 issue of SELF magazine. (jillian michaels is on the cover!)

WHY I'M NOT REGISTERING FOR BABY GIFTS
Today is my lazy day, but I decided to write a post from the comfort of my bed, while still in pajamas. I've relaxed so much today, it's been awesome! I've not brushed my teeth, I've not done much of anything, except I did eat a frozen pizza for lunch, well I cooked it first duh!
I'll be having a baby shower back in my hometown in a few months and it's exciting yet stressful. While most people go the traditional route of registering for gifts somewhere and compiling a list of everything they'll need before the baby comes we've decided not to do this. Is it because I'm trying to be a complete B***H just because I'm pregnant? Is it because I want to try to be difficult? Is it because I want to try to go against the grain? NO! It's because registries are stressful! Not only are they time consuming, the way my mind works when I see an item to register for I have to spend time comparing every other similar item and brand and make sure I'm getting the best one. I will literally stay awake at night thinking to myself, did I register for the right item? Is this realllllly the best bottle warmer? Etc. And for me that's a waste of time!
Also, I think that while everyone has their idea of what worked for them it may not work for me and my family. Just because you breastfed doesnt mean I'll be able to, just because you used a rocking chair doesn't mean I will, just because you used a special drying rack for bottles doesn't mean I will, just because you love a Moby Wrap doesn't mean I will, just because you love a Baby Bjorn carrier doesn't mean I will, I could go on and on! So what my husband and I feel like will work for us is doing away with the registry all together! We didn't do one for our wedding and we managed, and we think we'll be fine without one for the baby! We have no idea what the baby will and won't like, heck as bad as this sounds, we may not even ever get to meet our baby! Hey if my baby dies before I get to meet it, are you going to help me return all of those shower gifts? Didn't think so!
So, here's what's going to work for us...not registering, but instead telling people they can bring giftcards or gently used baby items they already have. We love this idea! We live near Target and since I'll be traveling back to our home after the shower, not having to lug a bunch of items will be extremely helpful for us. Also, we have a feeling we'll be given lots of items (like we already have) so we just figure once I return home we can go shopping and get the absolute necessities together. While some people think we're crazy OH WELL!
We've really been so blessed this entire pregnancy and we just want to rejoice in the fact that we're having a baby...everything else will fall into place. We really want our shower to be about laughter and happiness over the fact that we're having a baby!
While I know this may not work for everyone, I just want any other pregnant women out there to know...stick to your guns, just because everyone else is telling you you've got to do something you don't! Do what feels right for your family, and what works for your family!
PS I am really looking forward to playing the poopy diaper game with candy at the shower though ; )

THERE'S MORE TO ME THAN JUST BEING A PREGNANT LADY
I've noticed lately that when people find out you're pregnant that's all they care about. It's really hard to have conversations with others about things other than the baby, your pregnancy, etc. And honestly that bothers me! There's more to me than just the fact that I'm pregnant. I enjoy reading, and praying, and singing, and spending time with my husband, and movies, and looking and crap online, and cooking, and eating, and catching up on celebrity gossip, the list goes on and on. But really there's more to me than just the fact that I'm pregnant.
Once the baby's born I also don't only want to hang out with people in kid related ways. Please don't take this in a way that assumes I'm not excited about motherhood and pregnancy, because I am I promise I am. And my pregnancy has been so awesome! Easy, no morning sickness, no crazy cravings, honestly very easy.
But before I'm a mom I'm a wife and I'm a daughter and a friend. So please, can we talk about something other than babies and baby showers. For instance fill me in on your exciting life of sex, drugs, and rock and roll! And random one night stands, and drunk nights, because we all know I'm not doing that no more!

BACKWARDS TURTLES CAN BE SEXY TOO
I've found that as my belly growth is steadily progressing I've decided to start calling myself a backwards turtle. That's what I look like. How sexy is that? I mean don't get me wrong, I think all pregnant women are beautiful, but how I feel about myself...
I'm a bit off balance, parts are growing, I can't wear cute thongs or any cute underwear anymore for that matter, boobs are getting so big the only thing that can hold them up is a super bra I made outta heavy duty duct tape! And with the size of my growing body, it's made shaving, showering, even wiping my butt a little difficult! How's that for feeling sexy? I do still attempt to squeeze my ever growing ass into skinny jeans on special days but then I start getting gas pains and really regret my decision. What's a pregnant lady to do? I'm trying to maintain my dignity over here!
Here are my top tips for still being sexy while you're a backwards turtle:
1. Shower Daily--sometimes you're not gonna feel like showering, but because of your growing belly and boobs you need to. There's gonna be extra cracks and crevices and if you don't get in there...it can get smelly.
2. Shave as much of your legs as you can (if you're comfortable get your man to help)--I am personally not okay with my husband shaving my legs. So I do as much of it myself as I can. This way once the baby is born and I get back into regularly grooming I won't have to bust out the weed whacker to take care of it!
3. Paint your nails (fingers and toes if you can)--I decided to paint my toenails and it was a little uncomfortable, I didn't do an awesome job, but I really did feel much more feminine and sexy after I was done. I also did my fingernails and felt equally as hot, although I just slapped clear polish on there. Again, if you feel comfortable get your man to do this stuff for you. But if you're comfortable with that you're also probably comfortable with sucking toes, which I ain't down with! There's also the option of going to a salon and getting these things done, I'm just cheap. One more thing...when using polish do it in a well-ventilated area and don't sniff the polish you freak!
4. Always brush your teeth--I shouldn't have to put this one on here but it's easy to be lazy when you're pregnant. So always go to bed with freshly brushed teeth, it's also gonna help make sure you don't get bloody gums and look like you're a vampire sucking on a fresh victim.
5. Makeup and eyebrows--These are probably 2 of the easiest ones. Keep your brows groomed, and apply makeup whenever you're leaving the house. It really will make you feel sexier and your husband will appreciate it. Save the scary makeup free face for days you're staying at home in your sweats.
6. Wardrobe--Invest in a few good maternity pieces. I have the advantage of wearing scrubs to work (awesome!), but if you work in a different setting get at least 1 pair of pants that are maternity and comfortable. I continued wearing my regular jeans with a Belly Band until the band started cutting into my love handles and making me look like a tube of vienna sausage. Then I gave in and got 1 pair of maternity jeans, and it's made such a difference! They are comfy and I feel better wearing cute sweaters and little cardigans with tanktops. If I'm just running out for quick errands I'll wear sweats, but at least make sure they are clean and match. While I do think actual maternity clothes are very expensive I've found ways around it. Buying stuff in 1 size larger than you normally wear is a good option. I've got a few sweaters and shirts that will get me through til summer gets here and then I can wear more dresses. Tanktops with cardigans are another option, as well as sweater dresses with tights. You don't need a ton of items and since shoes will still fit, I always try to wear heels when we are out and about. I feel alot sexier and although I've almost toppled over a few times it's worth it!
Hope you all had a great weekend, and remember BACKWARDS TURTLES CAN BE SEXY TOO!

Quote I found online that rocks!
I saw this quote/or poem or whatever you'd like to call it another blog I follow called www.naturallyattached.com
Although I'm not a mom yet this is some great advice that we can really all take to heart!
If I had my child to raise all over again,
I'd finger paint more, and point the finger less.
I'd do less correcting, and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less, and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious and seriously play.
I'd run through my fields and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging, and less tugging.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I'd build self esteem first and the house later.
I'd teach less about the love of power, and more about the power of love.

PEE-PEEING EVERY 5 MINUTES
I've always been a big water drinker, and during pregnancy I've really upped it. The only downside to the extra water is more frequent peeing. In the middle of the night, while at work, during movies, watching tv, on my daily walks, it's a bit annoying, but due to the growing baby in my tummy pressing on my bladder it's causing pressure which leads to more pee! Here's a funny story of what happened yesterday when my husband noticed my frequent peeing.
Mind you I had already peed about 6 times in less than an hour when this scenario took place.
Me: Hunnie I'm gonna head to the bathroom
Hubby: Again?
Me: Yes darling, remember I swallowed a melon and now it's resting on my bladder.
Hubby: Oh.
Hahahahha it was actually pretty funny, but now my sweet husband gets the idea. So whenever we're in the car and I say drive faster to get home, etc. I need to pee...he floors it!
Maybe later I'll resort to wearing Depends but not yet!

PREGNANCY--THE MOST NATURAL BOOB JOB EVERRRRRRRRRR!
So one of the things I constantly hear women talk about (non-pregnant women) is boob size. I wish mine were bigger, more perky, less perky, smaller, pointed in the same direction (yep, there's chicks out there that have googly eye boobs!). And the most logical option would be to alter your boobs if you're not happy with them right? Well, here's the best natural option if you'd like larger boobs...
PREGNANCY!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha, okay I'm only being half serious about this, but WOW! When you get pregnant your boobs get enormous! Because I don't feel like buckling down and buying new bras yet I resort to strapping those babies into a regular ole bra every morning. This is a bit of a process as I have to squish em in the right place to ensure I have no nipple shots, but damn I look good! And this is the kind of cleavage women would pay good money for!
So any ladies out there interested in getting a boob job, seriously just get pregnant, you'll have the most voluptuous boobs ever, and they'll also do tricks. They'll leak milk, you'll have nipples the size of silver dollars, man I could go on and on! And daily they will grow to new sizes, you could go to bed a B cup and wake up a D cup, WHO-HOO!
So be natural girls!
